This episode is about Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut, Synecdoche, New York. We try to explain how it can be so funny and so sad simultaneously, attempt to decipher what the film is meant to be about, talk about how different the movie would be if Larry David played Sammy. Then, Alex provides a theory about Olive’s metaphorical value, and James talks about the film’s apparent desire to return to the womb. Then we just cry for like forty minutes, upon realizing the fragility of the human experience and the hopelessness of it all.
