[THROWBACK!] Episode 49: David Fincher, Part 2

Published on September 13th, 2012

We continue our look at David Fincher’s career with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network. We point out that Brad Pitt sounds like Pepe le Pew, discuss how The Social Network is our generation’s Fight Club, why Timberlake isn’t a good actor, debut a new feature called Quotes McGotes, and we argue about the merits of applying the auteur theory to Fincher’s career. We also address the review embargo crisis that has been going on in regards to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s action-packed!

Episode 49: This is Your Life, Part 2

UPDATE: We don’t talk about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in this episode because it hadn’t been released yet. Alex thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought that visually and thematically it was possibly Fincher’s most Fincherian movie, and James really, really, really hated it for writing-based reasons that Alex doesn’t disagree with.

In the podcast, we discuss how The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Forrest Gump are kinda sorta really similar, with the exception of the important stuff like the movie’s themes and ideas. BUT WHATEVER. Here’s an example of things people saw in both Forrest Gump and BenjaBu.

Also, we mention how Michael Douglas enters his American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony, which is awesome. Check it below.

And perhaps you’re interested in seeing a great Nike Football commercial Fincher directed, starring Troy Polamalu and a still-superstar LaDanian Tomlinson.
