The last weekend of real summer is here! Celebrate by sitting in front of your computer reading our best articles of the the week!
MONDAY: Alex clearly had a case of the Mondays and started the week with an article about forgettable movies. He reminds us why we have these meh-diocre films and how, despite their lack of classic status, they can be very enjoyable to watch. (Bonus activity: Look at the Sandra Bullock pictures and imagine trying to hate her, even if she killed your dog. Spoilers: you can’t.)
TUESDAY: James wrote an article about baseball in Canada and tries to negotiate his citizenship with his new-found appreciation for America’s national pastime. His media education may have caused to him to connect Canada’s decision for public radio in the 30s to why the Jays are a non-issue to the rest of the American League East. This article lit up the Interwebz so hard that it is now #1 hit on Google if you search “Canadian Baseball” and “public radio”!
WEDNESDAY: The Macguffin Men continue their takeover of pop culture criticism beyond movies with Alex’s recommendation of the 2007 album Below the Heavens.
THURSDAY: This week’s podcasts was the latest edition in our series of auteurcasts. This time we look at director Darren Aronofsky. It is part one of 2 and we look at Pi, Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain. We also make a disproportionate amount of mustache jokes so even if you hate those movies but love hearing about mustaches, you’ll be fine.
FRIDAY: Travis has made it out of the hospital after his harsh MacGuffin Men initiation. It wasn’t pretty but he survived watching every Police Academy movie in a row and is therefore able to continue contributing. This week he wrote a letter to his younger self about hoarding CDs, the problems with analog media, how memories and pop culture get all tangled up and what to do about it.
