Hey Alex and James,
I just wanted to point out another and slightly earlier source of quotations: The Simpsons. Although it was a television show, I can recall the heavy quotation of the Simpsons during it’s prime (1993-2000?). “Shave those sideburns mattingly;” “No, dig up stupid;” “I was saying ‘Boo-urns;'” are a few examples. Perhaps the quotability of these so called frat-pack movies are a result of a culture that grew up with quoting the Simpsons trying to replace that quotability. “Need some more cowbell” is the ultimate quote though, not in quality, but in how many times I hear it.
