This week, we look at the 2011 film Drive. Alex breaks down culture’s seemingly instant adoption of Ryan Gosling as the coolest person ever, James questions the perceived 1980s motif in Drive, and we talk about exploding heads and fork stabbings. Plus, we compare Drive to Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, as well as contrast it with Fast Five, and we play the obligatory clips of Breaker High and Young Hercules.
WARNING: This week’s episode features some gross shit, from Drive. However, the two shots are back to back, and pretty clearly foreshadowed should you want to look away.

I think something had to be said about Gosling’s jacket in the movie. Since we are drawing on parallels between John Hughes and this movie, take into consideration Molly Ringwald’s jacket in Pretty in Pink. To me, that jacket was an iconic one, and I feel the Gosling jacket was like that.

Liked your “Die Hard” joke, Alex 🙂
I had no idea how violent this movie was, when I saw it I literally kept gasping in the theatre because it was so violent.
Great post! 🙂
