We look at two underappreciated films, both with a similar theme and debatably the exact same character. We first look at Francis Ford Coppola’s overlooked 1974 masterpiece The Conversation, as well as Tony Scott’s less stellar but still really good 1998 film Enemy of the State. We look at how each film was ahead of its time thematically, why they’re both so good, why Gene Hackman is playing against type in The Conversation, and why Will Smith is kind of a unique action hero in Enemy of the State. Also, we look at how each film reflects our modern society, one that is becoming more and more okay with Orwellian surveillance methods. Because, sometimes on the MacGuffin Men, shit gets real.<\/p>\n
