Also, Alex and James suggest this Slate article<\/a> about why many of the biggest movies of the year are set fully or partially in the past.<\/p>\n

TUESDAY:<\/strong> Alex decides that he should write about music once again, this time focusing on Arcade Fire’s wildly popular third record, The Suburbs<\/a>. He breaks down what that album says about modern culture, and how Betty White, the Beastie Boys, Woody Allen, Dawson’s Creek, and modern technology say about our seemingly constant desire to look back.<\/p>\n

WEDNESDAY:<\/strong> The newest contributor to The MacGuffin Men, Travis, writes about his experiences at the drive-in watching Super 8 and Green Lantern<\/a>. James also gives us his first recommendation, suggesting that you give The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford a shot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

THURSDAY:<\/strong> After constant badgering from both Team Edward and Team Jacob, we finally respond to the people and do a podcast on the first Twilight film<\/a>. We look at what we liked about the movie (little), what we didn’t like about the movie (a lot), and Alex breaks down why he wanted to do a podcast on a movie that neither of us particularly likes.<\/p>\n

FRIDAY:<\/strong> Alex recommends a 1999 Vanity Fair piece by Peter Biskind on the infamous and elusive director Terrence Malick<\/a>, most recently of the divisive (yet gorgeous) The Tree of Life, and James writes about how Jon Hamm can navigate the switch from his roles as super-serious Don Draper to his comedic performances<\/a> on Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and Bridesmaids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
