Episode 22: THE SOURCE HAS A WHITE OWNER

Published on June 2nd, 2011

This week, we kind of take a look at the movie 8 Mile, but mostly just talk about Eminem’s career as a rapper and media figure. We discuss why it is confusing when rock radio plays Eminem music, James offers a point about how Eminem represents Detroit, Alex explains how the final battle in 8 Mile sums up Eminem’s approach to his career.

Annnnnnd here’s your mp3.

CORRECTIONS: Alex was just about spewing out incorrect information this week. The Beastie Boys’ Sabotage is on Ill Communication, not Check Your Head, and Paul’s Boutique was released by Capitol Records, not RCA. Finally, Rock Around the Clock was most famously recorded by Bill Haley and His Comets.

Here is ‘We As Americans,’ which James discusses.

Below you will find Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Cashis & Stat Quo’s ‘Syllables,’ which would be pretty funny if anybody on this song had the balls to actually put it on their album.

And here is the final battle from 8 Mile, which Alex thinks is indicative of how Eminem has approached his career.

Finally, here is Elzhi breaking down the concept of patterns, something we enjoy about fellow Detroit rapper Eminem.
